In 1929, Hymet Murat arrived in Australia.
Everyone called him Jack.

He was 16, alone, and a world away from his family. He earned a living chopping wood, and dreamed of bigger things.

In the sun-drenched fields of Mareeba in tropical Queensland, those dreams took shape. It was here that he sweated alongside other immigrant farmers, sowing the seeds of the country’s tobacco industry and the beginning of a family tradition working on the land.

Trading his axe for a plough and a pair of Clydesdales, Jack soon saved enough to buy his own farm. In time this farm grew, along with his family.

The crops have changed. The spirit remains.

Today the Clydesdales and the tobacco are long gone, but Jack’s pioneering ways live on. Almost 90 years later his descendants – still farmers – use the same fertile ground and ideal tropical conditions to grow the finest Arabica coffee beans. As a mark of respect, they’ve put Jack’s name on the label.

Combining almost a century of farming experience with new sustainable practices, the Murat family farm is dedicated to consistently producing nothing less than the best coffee crops in Australia.

For the Murats, it’s much more than coffee.
