IN A TANGIBLE STEP TOWARDS BECOMING AN EVEN MORE SUSTAINABLE AUSTRALIAN COFFEE BRAND, WE HAVE JUST MADE THE SWITCH TO SOLAR. THE SYSTEM WAS LOCALLY DESIGNED AND DELIVERED, PURPOSE-BUILT TO HARNESS THE INTENSE AND ABUNDANT NORTH QUEENSLAND SUN.
AT 134 KW, THE SYSTEM COMPRISES FOUR SEPARATE AND INDEPENDENT UNITS SPREAD ACROSS THE FARM, DELIVERING 220MWh ANNUALLY AND HANDLING THE BULK OF OUR NEEDS IN IRRIGATION, PROCESSING, AND DRYING.
THE ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS ARE EQUIVALENT TO PLANTING ABOUT 4,000 TREES EVERY YEAR, SAVING ENOUGH PETROL TO FILL UP A SMALL ARMY OF CARS, AND PUTTING THE BRAKES ON BURNING A MOUNTAIN OF COAL. MOREOVER, IT MAKES PERFECT BUSINESS SENSE, WITH A SIZABLE INITIAL OUTLAY EXPECTED TO PAY OFF IN THREE YEARS.
AUSTRALIAN-GROWN COFFEE ALREADY BOASTS A SHORT PLANT-TO-CUP JOURNEY, OR AS THEY SAY, FOOD MILES – AND NOW, ITS SUSTAINABILITY JUST GOT EVEN BETTER.
